As a part of our annual Fun Fair, dive into the wonders of the ocean, with interactive displays, hands-on activities, and educational sessions on marine ecosystems and conservation. Presented by the Friends of Waialae, this exhibit inspires curiosity and highlights the importance of protecting our oceans.

  • Genki Balls Ala Wai

    Activity: Get hands-on and make Genki Balls to help restore the Ala Wai Canal—water provided for handwashing!

  • Local Iʻa

    Activity: Create beautiful fish prints (Gyotaku) and learn about sustainable fishing —bring your own fabric for a unique, hands-on experience!

    Local I’a promotes locally sourced seafood and sustainable fishing practices to support Hawai’i’s fisheries and consumers.

  • NOAA Whale Exhibit

    Activity: Explore a 45-foot inflatable humpback whale with a 3D inner organ display.

    NOAA’s Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary protects humpback whale habitats, showcasing tools and technology used to safeguard these majestic creatures.

  • NOAA Hawaiian Monk Seal Research Program

    Activity: Learn about monk seals and turtles and catch-a-seal

    The Hawaiian Monk Seal Research Program leads NOAA's efforts to study monk seal biology and guide conservation efforts using the best available science.

  • DAR - The Protected Species Program

    Activity: Learn about endangered species and play fun interactive games with the Protected Species Program!

    The Protected Species Program with the Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) educates the community about endangered marine species in Hawai’i, encourages reporting of sightings, and provides guidance on how to help animals in need. They also share fishing regulations and offer interactive games for all ages.

  • Wai’alae 5th Graders

    Activity: Showcasing invasive limu removal from Maunalua Bay

    Fifth graders are presenting their efforts to remove invasive limu from Maunalua Bay, in partnership with Mālama Maunalua. They encourage families to get involved in volunteering to help protect and restore local marine environments.

  • Parley for the Oceans

    Activity: Microplastic mosaics on wood fish magnets to promote ocean stewardship through conscious consumer choices.

    Parley for the Oceans unites creative minds to protect the oceans through eco-innovation, raising awareness about the fragility of marine ecosystems and promoting sustainable solutions.

  • Dolphin Quest

    Activity: Dive into cetacean education with Dolphin Quest and explore the world of dolphins!

    Dolphin Quest aims to create fun and innovative experiences that inspire a deeper connection to nature, fostering a passion for marine life and environmental learning.

  • One Ocean Diving

    Activity: Shark education, stickers, fossil shark teeth, shark plushies, and discussions on shark biology and their role in the ecosystem.

    One Ocean Diving offers the first non-caged shark diving experience in Hawaii, aiming to inspire the next generation to protect marine life and understand the ecological significance of sharks.

    Activity: Explore marine life up close with the marine invertebrate touch tank!

    Brian is sharing his knowledge of marine invertebrates through an interactive touch tank, providing a hands-on opportunity to learn about these fascinating ocean creatures.

    Activity: Explore star navigation through the star compass and Star Houses!

    The Polynesian Voyaging Society is dedicated to preserving the art of traditional Polynesian voyaging while inspiring communities to respect their natural and cultural environments.

  • Hawaii Marine Animal Response (HMAR)

    Activity: Enjoy marine-themed activities like ring toss, drawing, and writing letters to the ocean

    HMAR is Hawai’i’s largest nonprofit focused on marine species conservation, rescue, and education. Their mission is to protect marine life, including monk seals, turtles, and seabirds, fostering sustainable harmony between humans and the ocean.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

We are dedicated to promoting environmental responsibility at our funfair. In partnership with the Hawaii Bicycling League, we encourage you to RIDE YOUR BIKES to the event, for free bike valet. To reduce waste, we also invite everyone to BRING REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES and take advantage of our free water refill stations throughout the fairgrounds, provided by the Kokua Hawaii Foundation. Together, let’s make this event fun and eco-friendly!
